I wish all of my relatives were vegan but that’s just not the case – YET! I love cooking and entertaining and knew I really had to impress everyone and show them just how delicious a VEGAN THANKSGIVING could be. AND IT WORKED! Everyone loved the entire spread. Proof that ANYTHING can be veganized – even Thanksgiving Dinner!
Do it right, and nobody will care if you use vegan butter or plant-based sausage or soy milk or egg replacer! It doesn’t matter! Every recipe tastes identical to the non-vegan version I grew up with, maybe even better.
I’ve included all of the sides that my family traditionally served, minus the turkey, obviously. Today, there are so many plant-based ‘roasts’ or ‘turkeys’ or ‘hams’ to choose from. Here’s a list in case you’re curious. The Gardein Holiday Roast is our favorite. There are also plenty of recipes online if you’d like to try making your own vegan ‘turkey’ for the holidays!
In Minnesota, we are lucky enough to have Herbivorous Butcher, a vegan butcher shop, offering ready-made turkey and ham roasts that have been perfected by the brother and sister duo over the last decade. Their meat-free meats are pretty impressive and their cheeses are my favorite, especially the dill havarti!
Vegan Stuffing
Whoever invented stuffing or dressing, or whatever you call this concoction, is a genius. But, whoever decided to stick this up a butt and then cook it, is a little strange, I must admit. Anyways, this VEGAN STUFFING with plant-based sausage is just as delicious as other traditional ones. Throw it on the table and I guarantee NOBODY will even know it’s vegan! Just do it!!
Green Bean Casserole
In this Easy Vegan Green Bean Casserole we make our own cream of mushroom and then keep it simple with canned green beans and French’s Fried Onions. This recipe only requires 10 ingredients and one skillet!
Vegan Mushroom Miso Gravy
This VEGAN MUSHROOM MISO GRAVY is rich, velvety, super flavorful and could definitely hold its own against its meat juice competitors! This stuff is obviously delicious on mashed potatoes. But, it’s also wonderful on top of stuffing (or dressing, as some say). And excellent drizzled over some vegan turkey. Ok, just pour it over everything on your plate! It also makes a great bread dipper….and by bread I mean those cute little Pillsbury crescent rolls!
Vegan Scalloped Corn with Saltine Crackers
Vegan Scalloped Corn with Saltine Crackers was one of my favorite sides at Thanksgiving. I always devoted a large portion of my plate to this stuff and we all know that’s valuable real estate when it comes to a meal like this.
Baked Yams with Vegan Marshmallows and Pecans
There’s something special about these BAKED YAMS WITH VEGAN MARSHMALLOWS AND PECANS! Not only are these super easy to throw together, but they’re also colorful and almost dessert-like! They add a nice sweetness to your holiday table. As my dad would always say, “They taste like candy!”
Ryan Mulcahy
As good if not better then the non-vegan versions.
