This delicious and creamy vegan Tirokafteri dip is perfect for when you need a quick and easy appetizer. Serve it with sliced baguette, fresh pita bread, or chopped veggies.
What is Tirokafteri?
Tirokafteri, also known as Ktipiti, is a cheese-based dip or spread from Greece. It’s the second most iconic Greek dip, right behind Tzatziki. Ingredients most commonly include feta cheese, hot peppers, roasted peppers, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, yogurt, oregano, or other spices. Tirokafteri requires a spicy agent like chili peppers, red pepper flakes, or spicy paprika. It’s commonly part of a mezze platter, or by itself with fresh pita bread, warm baguette, or chopped veggies. You can serve it warm or cold, but traditionally it’s chilled.
For this recipe, we use tofu instead of feta. To make the tofu more like feta, we add a little lemon juice, salt, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, and nutritional yeast. Once it’s blended with the other ingredients, it becomes smooth, creamy, and cheesy, closely resembling the original!
